If your current vet isn’t a woman, odds are the next one will be

The number of females attending colleges of veterinary medicine surpassed the number of male enrollees in 1986. And with current nationwide enrollment hovering around 80 percent women, most vets who retire in the coming years will be replaced by a female practitioner.  Numerous experts argue no other profession has witnessed such drastic feminization in the past 50 years.

“If your current vet isn’t a woman, odds are the next one will be” explored theories behind the change and included interviews with practicing female veterinarians, as well as a female faculty member at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  The article was especially popular on social media, receiving more than 3,000 Facebook shares within the first month of publication.
